The other day, Becky and I decided to have a movie night. She wanted something with lots of explosions, so we got Die Hard and Robocop. It was a good night.
Yesterday we went to my dad's place for a nice dinner. He had a bunch of seafood shipped in from Boston. We had clams, some clam chowder, lobsters, and brownies. So much food. So delicious. |

"Okay, Will, here's the deal," said Andres, "I got three dollars. If you can chug a cup of our Volcano Hot Sauce, it's yours. If not, you pay me."
"Hey, I got a couple of bucks. Let me get in on that," said Chris(Feldman, manager of the pizza area). "Hey, Bill(manager of the front area), you want to get in on this."
"Sure," Bill said, "I love seeing assholes do stupid shit!"
"Alright, great," said Andres. "Hey, Shahrin(another manager), Will's gonna chug some Volcano sauce for money. You want to get in on this?"
Shahrin says, "... I'm going to call 911."
"Okay, great," says Andres. "I'm gonna get a cup. We'll measure out 12 ounces; that's the same as what's in a can of soda." Andres pours out a can of soda and marks the cup. "Alright, now just fill it to that line with Volcano sauce."
Bill comes up and tells us, "Hey, Menasi(one of the kitchen cooks) wants to get in on this too." The total is now $20 and the cup is full.
"Fantastic," says Andres. "Alright, you ready, Will? Remember, you have to drink the whole thing. You can stop for a quick breath if you need to, but you need to finish it and keep it down."
With a quivering lip and the sudden realization that he does not want to pause and let the aftertaste hit, Will chugs the entire cup in a matter of seconds.
Later, Andres asks, "So on a dumbass scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the dumbest thing you've ever done and 1 being not dumb at all, where did that rank?"
Thinking for a moment, Will says, "I'd say about a 3."
"That's all?"
"Yeah, well, I told you the bottle rocket story." |

| The Story of my Life |
|
|
| 03:20pm 02/10/2009 |
| |
It's been a while, so I thought I would let some people know what's going on with my life. That's what a blog's for, isn't it?
There haven't been any real major events since my last post, but many minor things. I recently went to the doctor and had my first check-up in many years. Haven't gotten the results yet, but I expect good news, or at least no bad news, which in this case would be good news. The funny thing is, earlier today I got a call from a woman who was with BadgerCare(the reason I could afford to get a check-up) and she reminded me that I needed to get a physical exam soon or my coverage would be canceled.
I'm taking a tango class with Becky. I haven't really done any dancing since Argentina and it's a nice way to keep my skills sharp. Plus Becky didn't know tango, and now we can go dancing together. Though signing up for the class has proven to be far more complicated than it should be.
First, after I had signed up for the class online, I forgot that you have to pay tuition before the start of the semester(I always made a minimum payment, and then paid the rest off when I needed to sign up for next semester's classes), so I got dropped from the class. I went in last week to pay off what I owed and tried several times to sign up again online, but failed. Guess I was past the deadline for online registration. No big deal, I had the paper form, got the teacher to sign it after our class yesterday, and tried to hand it in today. First I find out that, because I'm a special student, I have to fill out another little form justifying myself to the academic adviser. Then they can't sign me up because there's a hold on my account, even though they said it would be removed when I paid last week. So I go back and forth between two offices in two adjacent buildings trying to set things straight. They finally tell me that, when I paid my account, there was a one-week deadline to sign up before my money was automatically refunded and the hold put back on. This whole time Becky was waiting in the car because I thought that I would just drop off a form and be back out. I had forgotten how much I hated bureaucracy. Never again.
I didn't pay off my account(again) yet because of my other, most exciting news: I'm going to be taking a workshop class to work on my advertising portfolio. This class isn't through UWM, so I won't have to deal with their shit. I think the class is on Mondays and Wednesdays, but I don't know if it will conflict with tango or not. If it does, then I won't be able to attend the tango classes anymore, and I'm not about to pay $86 when I'll only be attending one more class.
I'm really looking forward to the workshop because I've never had my work looked at by someone who would actually know how to judge it. (I just realized that the teeth in the skull on my jeans spell out TEETH)Knowing that my friends think I'm talented is nice, but it would be really good to have the opinion of someone who has seen a lot of ads and knows what makes a good one. Also, I've never made an ad for an assignment before, it's always just been when inspiration struck me. And if I'm really lucky I might make a few connections that could lead to a job.
If anyone actually read through all this, thank you, and I'm sorry for writing so much.
Also, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was even better than I expected, and I quite possibly have the greatest girlfriend in the world. |

I just got back from Montana. What a trip.
I am completely sold on taking the train to places whenever possible. Beautiful scenery, relaxing, much more luxurious and cheaper than a plane. Food was expensive, though.
Missoula is a beautiful place, and I wouldn't mind living there if I wanted to escape from the world. It's big enough to be somewhat city-ish, but not quite big enough for me. I don't think I would find a job other than working at a coffee shop or retail or something like that. As beautiful as the town is, I wouldn't want to do that for the rest of my life.
John told me it was in the 90s and sunny, but as soon as we got there it started raining. Not constantly, there was still plenty of sun, but every day it rained a little more. It prevented us from floating down the river.
There are a lot of potheads in Missoula. Pot and frolf(frisbee golf) are the two major activities that everyone does.
One problem with the trains: Amtrak has only one train a day going west, and one going east. The eastbound train was scheduled at around 7:30 in the morning, and the closest train depot is 3 hours away in Whitefish. Nate and John got in a bit of a nap and got up at 3am, but Becky and I determined it would be simpler to just stay up until 3.
Today was the first shower I've had in three days. |

Becky and I had been talking about going to Six Flags all summer, and Wednesday we finally did it. We picked up my friend, Keegan, at a little after 10:30, which was later than I would have liked, but considering that I had to close the previous night, wasn't so bad.
Anybody who's ever been to Six Flags should know, it's fucking awesome. Note: don't go on the popular rides until later at night when the lines die down. We were able to go on a bunch of the older rides like Iron Wolf and Demon during the day, and none of those had a line longer than twenty or thirty minutes. We did go on the new Dark Knight ride right away, and that was a mistake. It was a fun ride, but nowhere near worth the wait in line. It's basically a big funhouse type ride. It's all indoors, and the car takes you around some scenery and props and stuff. You start off going around some sharp turns, and the car doesn't lean into them, it just stays flat, so you get whipped around a bit, which is fun. Then it surprises you with a big drop down a hill. And it's dark, so you don't see it coming. That's when they take your picture. We had the best picture ever at that ride. |

Saw Shinedown at Summerfest last night. They took a bow at the end of their show. It was awesome.
Saw Flogging Molly tonight. Stood next to a guy who seemed very weird in a kinda douchey way. |

Yesterday started off kind of rough. I went to work(that part was fine) and then decided to try to fix my bike for the last time.
I had a flat tire, which I attempted to patch, only to find it flat again the next day. I put on another patch Friday and went to Summerfest, and the tire was already getting flat by the time I went home. Yesterday I decided to give it one more try. I don't have a proper tool for removing a tire from a bike, so I was using a spoon handle and a butterknife. I wrestled with the wheel using the butterknife for a while and finally got the tire off, and discovered that I had torn a huge hole while screwing around with the knife. I headed over to Crank Daddy's to buy a new one. I don't like the place, but it's closest and I wanted to get to Summerfest. When I got there I found that they had closed for the day. Oh well, I'd rather give my money to Cory's anyway. When I got there, I found that they had recently changed their hours and they were now closed as well. I was stuck with no bike and had wasted a bunch of time when I wanted to be enjoying some shows. Plus, there were a couple of bands that I especially wanted to see, so I was pissed that, of all times in the year to get a flat from Hell, it had to happen now.
I finally got home and immediately headed out to Club Brady for the Summerfest Shuttle. I went in, had a beer, and a really cool conversation with the only other guy there. He bought me another beer before I left. The day was getting better. When I finally got to Summerfest I did the usual thing of wandering around and listening to some decent bands. I went to the Potawatomi stage in time for Paul Cebar and the Sound of Tomorrow. They're local, and if you don't know them, imagine Los Lobos, but with Willie Nelson on lead vocals. After them I saw Cowboy Mouth. I don't know how to describe them, except to say that it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. The lead singer said that, at their shows, "your hands hurt from clapping, your voice hurts from shouting, your feet hurt from jumping up and down, and you're glad to be alive." I'd have to agree with that. |

Today I went to Summerfest. It was fun. Bought myself a 3-day pass, walked around for a while, saw a bunch of cool bands. I planned on seeing The Offspring when they headlined, so I got to the stage almost an hour and a half early. I was hoping that, when the current band was done playing, a bunch of people would move on and I would be able to snag a nice spot on the bleachers. I guess nobody was there for that band. They finished up and nobody moved. I was stuck somewhere right next to the bleachers. It was probably the worst spot for actually seeing the band. It was also where the flat area with no bleachers was, which meant mosh pits. Fortunately it was the Miller Oasis which has some big screens right next to the stage, so I could still see what was going on, sort of. I spent half the time watching the screens, and half the time deflecting human projectiles. I wound up next to this big guy who was in the army and also happened to be named Chris. He seemed pretty cool. He took it upon himself to support the two girls in front of us and make sure they didn't get knocked down and trampled. He also motivated another guy to push some fat guy into the mosh pit. It was a fun night. |

So today I went to my grandmother's funeral. She was 86. It's kind of sad, because I will miss her, especially all the good food she cooked(nobody made cookies like her), but at the same time all the things I miss have been gone for a long time. I grew up and she got older. In the same way, we grew apart and weren't that close. She had lived a very long life and it was clear that she was at the end of it.
For those of you who don't know, she was diagnosed with a pretty aggressive cancer a few months back. She figured it was her time and wasn't going to fight it. Her health was on a steady decline, but it wasn't until a little more than a week ago that things really took a bad turn. She went into hospice care where they put her on morphine. About two days later she died. I saw her for the last time just a few weeks ago and she seemed to be in good spirits, though I heard that it actually took a lot out of her. I was glad that she went so quickly. When my grandfather died, it took much longer. He was bedridden and in a lot of pain for a while.
Thank you all in advance for your condolences. |

I met a friend at Brother's tonight. I distinctly remember closing my tab there. From there we went to Duke's around the corner, where I didn't buy anything, and then we went to The Harp, down the street. When I tried to get a couple of drinks at Harp, I realized that my card was missing. Somewhere between Brother's and Harp I had lost my credit card. :( I'm going to check again tomorrow and if it hasn't turned up in the bars, I'm going to cancel it and get a new one. |

| Road-Trip |
|
|

So this weekend a friend of mine got married. This just two weeks after another friend of mine got married. Weird, huh? The wedding was in La Crosse, so I spent Friday night at Becky's and we got going early Saturday morning. Got a halfway decent breakfast at McDonald's(by that I mean it filled me up and didn't cause horrible things to happen to my insides) and headed out on our road trip.
We made pretty decent time most of the way. There was a bit of construction that caused the interstate to devolve into a two-lane highway, necessitating a slow-down, but at least traffic kept moving smoothly. When we got into town we looked at the scheduled events on the invitation and they just said the ceremony would be at 1:30 and dinner would be at 6:30. Didn't really say much about what would be in between, so we decided it would be a good idea to at least get a little food while we knew we could. We stopped at a Perkin's, ordered some appetizers(we knew they'd be quick and wouldn't fill us up), and changed in the bathroom while we waited for our food. We got out of there as fast as we could and headed to the church, but missed it. See, in Milwaukee, addresses with an even number are on the east side of the street, while odd-numbered addresses are on the west. This is not so in La Crosse. So between the construction slowing us down, stopping for some food, and not being able to find the church, we wound up being about half an hour late.
The ceremony was nice, though. Afterward we wound up with a bunch of downtime until the reception. Reception was also nice. I got a wee bit buzzed off of wine before dinner, then had some nice dinner, then didn't do any dancing. It was kind of disappointing. There were a whole bunch of specialty dances, like father-daughter, mother-son, married couples. Then when they finally had more regular dances, the dj didn't really play many good dance songs. After a while, Becky and I gave up and just went to our hotel.
Sunday morning we woke up too late for the free breakfast that the hotel offered, so we just checked out and went back to Perkin's. After breakfast we got on our way and had a pleasant road-trip back. We decided to pull over for a rest stop around Sullivan. It turned out to be a very lucky stop, because the place we went to had a small petting zoo. We got to look at some chickens, goats, peacocks, and very friendly donkeys, and we got to enjoy some absolutely beautiful weather. All in all, a very fun trip. |

Saturday my friend Vic got married. It was pretty cool. The ceremony was at the War Memorial right on the lake. It only lasted about an hour and then we went to the reception inside the memorial. Becky and I enjoyed some pretty tasty vegetarian food, and some cake, and then we did a bit of dancing. The bouquet/garter ceremonies were amusing. Vic's friends would be the type of people who don't want to catch the bouquet, so when it was thrown it landed on the floor and several of the girls backed away like it was radioactive. The dj gave a little speech that he "normally only has to give to the guys," and they threw again. This time it landed right next to Becky, so she just picked it up. I tried to catch the garter, but failed. The dj didn't make the bouquet and garter people dance, though, because he said it's usually awkward. There was much more dancing; our table boycotted the chicken dance, but Becky and I did participate in a conga line and Soul Train type thing. It was fun. |

Friday night I had a bad movie night at my place. I knew my friend, Chris Feldman, was bringing over Return of the Living Dead, so Becky and I went to Blockbuster to make sure we had enough for the night. We got Deep Blue Sea, Dungeons & Dragons, and The Eye(the movie with Jessica Alba where she gets an eye transplant and starts seeing ghosts and stuff). We only got to Return and the D&D movies, but we had a great time with them. Elena was drunk when she showed up, and then got more wasted, and then said some absolutely hilarious stuff. "Why are they burning that body? Is he jewish? Isn't that what they do to Jewish people?" Us: "See, the person can't hear the other two because they're a whole five feet away. Just like Elena can't hear us." "..." "Right, Elena?" "...What? I didn't hear you guys." And then, "Oh, are we watching the Dungeons & Dragons movie?" "Uh, we have been for the last hour." Good times.
Saturday my dad took me and Becky out for steaks at the 5 O'Clock Steakhouse. Mmm, steak.
Easter Sunday was spent at Becky's parent's place. It was a great dinner and a very good time. |

Saturday Becky and I went to another party. Same place as last time. Nobody threw up this time, though. We had a really good time. We saw some of the same people we saw last time, and got to hang out with some friends from work who we hadn't gotten to hang out with in a while.
Apparently it was a clothing optional party, too. There was this one girl, I don't know her name, we just called her Tits McGee, she wore a see-through mesh shirt with nothing underneath. There were a couple of guys there with very little on, I think there were some people with robes, nice crowd.
We had gotten a little drunk beforehand with some Bailey's and ice-cream. I made it a little strong for Becky, so I had half of hers too. Then we had a few drinks there and kept a nice buzz going for the whole night.
At one point Becky took off her bra and I wore it around my neck. Then I decided to take off my shirt and wore her bra around my chest. I'm not entirely sure why, the mood just kind of struck me. I think because so many other people had no shirts.
Becky switched her top with another person, and Tits McGee came over and said she had incredible boobs. Pretty nice compliment coming from her. After the party we went to my place and stayed up until about 5:30 talking.
I got up around 2 and made us some breakfast of pancakes and bacon. Then later we went shopping for some stuff for Becky's bike(she brought her bike down since the weather's getting warmer). She got a lock, patch kit, and a set of lights, I got a helmet, and we both got a set of air pumps. It was a good day. |

Friday night Becky and I went out to a Les Claypool concert at The Rave. A friend of mine had a bunch of extra tickets. Unfortunately you had to be 21 to redeem them, so Becky and I split the cost of a normal ticket for her. We hung around for some pretty cool opening acts, but it was so smokey inside that we couldn't hang around for very long.
Saturday we made ourselves some Bailey's shakes(fucking delicious) and went out to dinner. Don't worry, we drove to the restaurant and then drank the shakes. And the restaurant was only a few blocks from my place. After that we went to a party that a friend of mine was thowing across the street.
It was a really cool time for a while. They were running out of booze, and we planned on getting drunk, so we tried to drink as much as we could before it was all gone. We met some pretty cool people there, and I have further proof that I have the most awesome girlfriend in the world. There was this one girl there who was smashed when we came in. The first thing she said to me was, "Hey! Aren't you Clint?"
"...Sure."
As the night went on she called me all sorts of other names. Then she took off her pants. We didn't see that part. We just met her in the attic, then we went downstairs. Then she came downstairs with no pants on. I told Becky, "Hmm, her ass isn't bad, but it's kind of flat. I like yours better."
Becky says to the girl, "Hey, come here. We need to do a scientific experiment involving your ass."
She puts one of her hands on the girl's ass, and one hand on her own ass. Then she takes my hands, puts one of them on the girl's ass, and one on her ass.
My girlfriend is the greatest girl in the world.
We hung out and talked to a few other people. Remember how I said we were drinking stuff pretty fast? Well, I guess Becky drank a little too fast. The poor girl didn't have to experience to know how close she was to throwing up and got vomit all over herself. I took her back to my place and got her cleaned up. She's still the greatest girl in the world. |

St. Patty's Day was pretty good for me. Work was a little busy around lunchtime, but overall it wasn't too bad. At least, not for me. The closers had a hell of a time after bar-close.
After work I wanted to go out for a bit. I was planning on going to a few bars and then over to Becky's, and then when I realized how nice it was I decided to go for a bike ride instead. Unfortunately, by the time I got done with some chores that I had been slacking on over the past few days, there wasn't really enough time for the leisurely ride I was hoping for.
Becky and I hung out for a while, and then decided to go over to my friend Keegan's place to hang out and play some Smash Bros. A pretty good time. I would have gotten more drunk, but I had to work today. |

Yesterday I made $21. Some of you already know this, but a few weeks ago my girlfriend asked me to do a little favor for her. Her dad's favorite cousin(he's got about 30 cousins, so that's significant)is finally getting married to her boyfriend of 20 years. The real bachelorette party will be in Vegas with only a few people, so they had a bachelorette "shower" on Saturday. Becky asked me to be the "entertainment" of the evening. Basically, just dance with my shirt off.
It all went really well, actually. I was nervous as hell beforehand, but once I got up there everything was cool. First Becky and I demonstrated a little swing dancing to "Moondance," and then I took the bride-to-be up to teach her some swing. Partway through the song I led her to a chair, the music switched to "Let's Get It On," and I took off my shirt. When you're wiggling around in front of a room full of middle-aged women, that's a long song. At one point, the bride ran up and put a dollar bill in my pants. It was all pretty fun.
The worst part of all of it was shaving my chest. :( |

Well, Valentine's Day was kind of cool. Becky and I made it to our reservation at Izumi's and had a very nice dinner, but I think next year we'll just stay in and have a nice home-cooked meal, maybe rent some movies. Almost immediately after the dinner, though, things went south. I had a pretty bad sore throat and cough. I mean, REALLY bad. It felt like I swallowed a whole box of razor blades. I've also been having trouble breathing, like whatever it is that I have is aggravating my asthma. I didn't get much sleep that night, and the next day I had to call in to work. Now my throat feels much better, but I've got a very stuffy nose, and am still wheezy. Since getting home I've spent most of my time in bed. This sucks. |
